Summary
Welcome to the Amicitia website, a Christian Oratorio Society in Uithoorn, the Netherlands. We are a choir of about 90 members, more or less evenly spread out from sopranos to basses, although some new male members (especially tenors) would be welcome. Our history goes back to 1956. Since then, we have given annual concerts of both well-known works (for instance, the Messiah) and lesser-known works (for example, Händel's The Ways of Zion do Mourn). A list of all works performed since 1968 is on the second part of the Repertoire page. We rehearse every Monday from 20.00 to 22.15 in the auditorium of S.G. Thamen, Den Uyllaan 4 in Uithoorn. Our conductor is Toon de Graaf and our accompanist is Eric Jan Joosse. If you are interested in oratorio music, please feel free to join us at a rehearsal, just to see whether you like it. If you do, you would probably like a chat with the conductor to see where your voice fits in on the soprano-to-bass scale. The contribution is EUR 15.00 per month, which works out at EUR 2.25 per hour: not an expensive hobby! (Of course, we would expect you to invest additionally in the costume which is worn at performances.) For info, please call or mail Ms. Greet Bijlsma, our secretary, on +31 (0)297 567257, gbijlsma@hotmail.com, or Henk van Dijkhuizen, our chairman, +31 (0)297-567758, henkvd@caiway.nl. |
